The following is a breakdown of the costs for a safari in Udawalawe National Park:
Foreign visitors pay an entrance fee of $25 USD each. Yes, it's officially in USD, thus the admittance price (which needs to be paid in LKR) varies according on the exchange rate.
A local's entrance fee (your driver) is 150 LKR.
Service Charge: $8 USD per group (again, the price in LKR is subject to change based on currency rates).
Jeep cost: 250 LKR
VAT (tax): 15% of the total rental price of the vehicle and driver; the price range for a half-day safari is 4,500 to 5,500 LKR, depending on the operator and booking commissions.
